Big Brothers Big Sisters Program (BBBS) is pleased to offer several specialized youth mentoring and development programs. In Pike County, BBBS has established the Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) Program to help children learn effective ways to think through and respond appropriately to challenging social situations. Applied in kindergarten and elementary grades in the public school system, PATHS has been eagerly endorsed by parents, students, and school administration.
In Elmore County, BBBS has established a school-based mentoring program, Big Buddies Little Buddies, using carefully selected Wetumpka high school juniors and seniors to mentor elementary school students. Match activities focus on both academic and developmental activities.
Additionally, in a collaborative effort with the Alabama Attorney Generalís Office, Childrenís Trust Fund, and Mentor Alabama, BBBS is mobilizing secular and faith-based entities to provide mentoring services to children with an incarcerated parent(s). Faithful Friends and the Amachi-based program use one-to-one mentoring to help prevent children from falling into the well-documented pattern of multi-generational incarcerations.
